He seemed... I thought he looked scared. Like he didn't want to... or didn't know what to do. Like Akito's muggers. But... I don't think he really was.

[Past tense vs. present. The moment she'd started fighting the softness he'd shown had become hard and rough, any fear turning to dust. It'd become pretty clear that he wasn't nearly as reluctant a thief as he'd been pretending to be.

Her energy is flagging a bit though. Not too much yet, but she does shift back to rest her weight against the back of Aqua's bed.]

[Skulduggery's head tilt does not go unnoticed; while she can't tell for sure his exact meaning from it (the lack of a face to read certainly makes it difficult), she wonders if the number of assailants is significant.

She finds herself unsurprised that Xion believes her attacker wasn't afraid or confused, even though she hasn't considered it before. It's something she's been assuming, rather, given the man brought a gun with him. He had attacked her, and that was not something done out of fear, especially when armed.]

It doesn't sound like he was afraid.

[Her voice is slightly edged with a low anger. Everything she knows about the attack so far indicates to her a kedan willing to shoot and harm a young girl; not someone easily scared.

She reaches over and tugs a pillow up behind Xion, to give the girl a more comfortable brace.]

[Akito's muggers were undercover Chihuelans, given the means to shapeshift by a person or persons unknown. The same person or persons unknown then blackmailed the Chihuelans into doing some dirty work for them.

Different people respond differently to blackmail. When a person has everything to lose, their fear becomes paramount. When a person believes they have nothing left to lose, fear can easily morph into anger.]

I doubt he was afraid. Reluctant, or upset, but not afraid. He shot you in the shoulder, did he? Who took the bullet out?

[That question actually gets a bit of a blank look, followed switfly by Xion glancing over between Aqua and Roxas.]

I don't... really remember much after that. Just... [She shakes her head, frowning] Things moving fast.

[And hurting a lot. She shoots Aqua another look. The floor's all yours this time.]

[Xion hadn't been very aware at the time, so Aqua willfully filled in.]

Raine Sage and I removed it. She was brought to the Healer's Guild, and we took it out there. Do you want to speak to Raine as well, or...?

[She wasn't exactly sure where this line of thought was going; both she and Raine had only seen the aftermath of the attack.]

Actually, yes. Do you know if she would still have the bullet?

[Skulduggery knows Raine quite well, but apart from the taint situation in which she replaced two of his ribs for him, he hasn't spent very much time observing her healing process. Any competent doctor would keep the bullet, but Raine isn't a doctor. She's a healer. She might not have foreseen a need for keeping the bullet.]
